Scene Link
In today’s platform centric music economy, music discovery has become bleakly impersonal and increasingly severed from any sense of place or local music scene.
In opposition to platforms such as Spotify that use opaque discovery algorithms, SceneLink maps the Philadelphia electronic music scene based on authentic relationships between the musicians within the scene.
The map attempts to visualize the relationships that make up a local music scene by simulating magnetic attraction between artists who have played shows together or who have both shared bills with a common artist. The more “connected” two artists are, the more they will pool towards each other on a map. As more data is entered, clusters emerge showing artists who have shared connections.
This tool is intended both for music fans looking to discover new artists, as well as musicians planning tours and looking for artists to share lineups with.
